SOCIAL HOUSING
El Born, Barcelona
As part of my exchange program, I attended a social housing course that was run as a series of seminars. The focus of the seminar was participatory design and dealt with issues relating to social integration, cultural identity and the impact thereof on architecture and urban design.
Each week a topic was researched within the theme and presented in class. The idea was to highlight key issues that would later be addressed in a real design project. The seminar was linked to a network called Oikodomus that allow multiple universities from around the world to work together and share ideas. Classes were sometimes attended via skype from Latin America and the likes.
Working in collaboration with La Salle University and SostreCivic Barcelona, the group of students gathered information, designed strategies to obtain information from future residents and ultimately designed within the perimeters of an existing building in the city center.
